Kenzie was born on a cold, wet, windy, shivery day. Kupcake needed no assistance in the birthing, in fact, we weren't even around when Kenzie was born. We just discovered her in the pasture. We certainly were surprised to see a white baby with a pink muzzle since mom is a dark fawn and papa is a bay black! Those color genes are hiding; nevertheless, we are very pleased with this little gal. She has amazingly lustrous fiber with wondrous crimp. Her Scottish name means "fair-skinned."
Kenzie weighed in at 19 lbs. at birth. With Kupcake's good milk, she weighed 45 lbs. at 6 weeks--more than a 1/2 lb. gain per day! At 11 months, she was nearly 100 lbs. We suspect she will mature early as did her sister, Fiona, who was bred at 17 months, and her brother, Duncan, who was breeding before 24 months.
Kenzie has a remarkably short muzzle and deep jaw, making that very triangular head everyone strives for. Her staple length at 11 months was 6 inches! Her fiber has an extremely soft hand and is brilliant, bundled, and has a low amplitude, high frequency crimp. Her initial histogram as a cria is AFD 14.5 with a curve factor of 35.5 -- a mighty fine start! Can't wait to shear her and weigh all that gorgeous fleece!
Kenzie's sire is Onyx de Mico (BB), a two-time AOBA blue ribbon winner, out of the Pperuvian Guellermo line with Michelangelo as his sire. Mike Safley commented on the "excellent fleece" of Onyx and Dr. Julio Sumar spoke of his "perfect conformation." Kenzie looks like she's following in her dad's footsteps! She has so much going for her, we will most probably keep her as a foundation female for our farm.
