Ebony will be 13 years this fall 2006. She is the farms’s biggest girl, with a normal weight of about 180 lbs. and standing 37 inches tall at the shoulder. Though sprinkled with a bit of gray now, her jet black color has been termed "blue black."

We bought her several years ago with her black daughter, Eilinoir, and she has since given us Gryffin of Stirling Ridge, a handsome black Synopsis Nocturna son, and Stirling Ridge Iagan, a beautiful son of Duncan of Stirling Ridge. She has excellent mothering instincts and has no lack of nutritious milk. She has given these two offspring lots of color.  Ebony is full Chilean and also has medium silver gray in her background along with her coveted Zorro heritage.

"Ebbie" came to us as a skittish kicker and screamer. We have been working with her and she is much improved in all areas. She voices herself if she is really concerned, but has toned down a lot in volume and frequency; she rarely kicks even when cornered. Though still hesitant, she will eat out of our hand, something she would have never considered doing in the past.

In early 2004, we realized she had lost a lot of weight and with it had lost her pregnancy. The problem was discovered to be several infected molars. The skillful doctors at Washington State University removed 3 of her teeth; we then waited to see how she would heal and if she would recover. We are immensely pleased and thankful to report that her jaw healed perfectly, she regained all her weight, she acts fit as a fiddle, and Dr. Tibary deemed her ready for breeding with no negative consequences stemming from a lack of grinders!

She was then bred to our own young herdsire, Duncan of Stirling Ridge, a dark fawn. She gave birth May 14th, 2005, to a very handsome dark fawn male, named Iagan.  As we presumed, Duncan added density, fineness, crimp, and a more refined head to her colorful genetics.  Iagan turned out so well (AFD 16), we bred Ebony back to Duncan again and Hazelnut was born August 2006. Another gorgeous baby with a beautiful head and silky, crimpy fiber and lots of it!  Take a careful look at Ebony's histogram and compare it to her son Iagan's histogram.  Duncan turned the histogram tables around for Iagan. We haven't gotten a histogram on Hazelnut yet, but we already know how much better it is than mom's ever was.
