Fiona is a Scottish name meaning "white and pure." She is half Peruvian and half Bolivian and boasts of Caligula as her grandsire. She has earned her role as Public Relations Queen at Stirling Ridge, being the most interested in people, the most bold and unafraid, the most curious of all our animals, never spitting or kicking. She is well-mannered on the halter and is learning to pick up her feet on command for nail trimming (what a concept!)
. Fiona is about 170 lbs at mature weight and is one of our tallest animals, measuring 37 inches at shoulder height.
Because of her weight and height, she was able and interested in being bred at an early age, and after passing her reproductive soundness exam with Dr. Tibary at Washington State University, was given the go-ahead for breeding at 17 months, indicating early maturity. Fiona has birthed Nona, sired by Premier’s Vidal, a 7/8 Peruvian with exceptional coverage, outstanding genetics (Microsoft and Camilio), and many awards to his name in both fleece and halter.
Fiona gave birth in October 2006 to Stirling Ridge Wallace out of Victor's Julius (DB), co-owned by Janus Alpacas. Julius is the son of the famous Accoyo Victor (MF) and his dam is the light silver grey Grace's Vision of Sugarplum. Julius has racked up several awards including a blue ribbon at AOBA nationals. Julius is throwing beautiful fiber on his progeny; several have already consistently ribboned in the showring. Wallace is medium fawn with white markings and several spots of gray on his head and upper neck.
Since little Wallace was born quite late in 2006, Fiona will be bred this spring of 2007. If you would like to make the decision of who she will be bred to, there are many excellent local choices available. The stud fee (limited) is included in the sales price and Fiona will be sent to your farm after 60 and/or 90 day ultrasounds confirming her pregnancy. Delivery within 300 miles is free.
